Flash , Cabeza-Pata & Einar , Kalinken , Svingelskogen

In the summer of 2008 I finally got my butt around to learning Flash, the vector animation software. These clips are the results of me attending the downloadable lectures at www.cartoonsmart.com.

Cabeza-Pata & Einar: Washingroom Violence was my examination film from animation school at Fellingsbro Folkhögskola 1998/99. It was made with the classic technique they used in "the good ol' days", i.e. hand-painted cells shot with a 16 mm animation camera. The film aired in SVT (Swedish National Television) 2000/07/10 on the show Hajk, presented by legendary TV-profile Bengt Alsterlind.

Kalinken: Rädda, Larma, Släck (1999) was my first professional animation job at Husar Studios in Fellingsbro. The Kalinken characters were designed by Kenneth Hamberg, who used to be my teacher at animation school at Fellingsbro Folkhögskola. Kenneth was a great source of inspiration and motivation for me on the long and sometimes burdensome path to becoming a cartoonist. One of his many characters is Goliat, a Swedish animated TV-series and comic book that used to be popular in the 1980s. Rädda, Larma, Släck is an educational film for children, teaching what to do in case of fire. The main characters of the film are Flamma (who I was the main animator for) and her baby-brother Slarvid. Kalinken is the fireman, the hero. We were four animators and one background artist on this project. You can watch the separate scenes that I animated on Youtube.

Svingelskogen (Mingle Woods) was my second professional animation job at Husar Studios in Fellingsbro. The background artist from Kalinken and I were hired to produce some scenes for a pilot for an animated series on Monica Forsberg's children's theatre play, Svingelskogen. Characters were once again designed by Kenneth Hamberg. The series never went into production, but it proved a valuable experience for me. I was thrilled to shake hands with Monica, the woman who voice dubbed Fraggle Rock to Swedish in the early 80's. I'm generally not a big fan of dubbing films and TV-series. Still, voice dubbing usually works better with puppet shows and animation than for instance live action movies, and I think Monica and her crew do it very well. Fraggle Rock was one of the BIG creative sparks that hit me during childhood, and Monica had actually met Jim Henson in London! According to her, "everything in Jim's house was golden..."
