Pimped Dialogue Clip for Reel

My 3D showreel is almost there. This is the final clip to be refurbished. It came from a two week dialogue course with veteran Pixar animator Rich Quade. Rich was Directing Animator on Toy Story, and he animated on Toy Story 3, which will be out any day now in Sweden (can’t wait!). The voice of the clip belongs to Vincent Gallo from the movie Buffalo 66. The refurbished version includes polishing of the facial expressions, adding surfaces and lights to the scene, and further developing the escaped convict’s dialogue partner…

Here’s another freshened up clip for the reel. The result of a 2 week silent acting course with Disney/Dreamworks animator Eric Schmidt.

The assignment was A) to invent a character and a simple story. I came up with this musician, a triangle player, going to work. B) to have a safe suddenly drop from above (”magic if”). How would the character react in this given circumstance? The lesson to be learned here was that you really have to know your character (how old is he, where does he live, what is he doing, why is he doing it, what does he like, what does he hate etc.) in order to know how to animate him.

Reel Work

I’ve been spending the last week freshing up some 3D exercises from this spring’s character animation course in Viborg. The goal is to put together a nice looking reel that I can use to apply for animation jobs. I’ve been polishing the animation and working out how to make some simple yet nice renders. First to go was the quintessential animation exercise, the boxlift. Can you feel the weight?

Bamse #10 2010

Lille Skutt’s brother Happ and his house mate Lille Sixten are back in a new adventure written by Susanne Adolfsson, introducing a brand new character in the Bamse universe.

Great cover by Gunnarsson, Bällsten, Hanson and Jörgensen.

Happ and Sixten discover a new born baby rabbit outside their door. They can’t find its mother, so they must learn how to take care of it. Turns out the baby is very, very hungry…

Happ and Sixten name the baby Suddan. Here are some rough design sketches. I decided to make her a Lop Rabbit with hanging ears.

I drew this comic about a year ago in Liverpool in my dad’s house. Brings back memories of a quiet summer, a damp Yemeni mafrash (living room) turned into a temporary studio, walking the dog, feeding the cat.

Happ, Lille Sixten och Suddan is one of those rare stories dealing with contemporary social issues in a way that in my opinion makes Bamse unique among children’s comics. Very nice work by writer Susanne Adolfsson.

Bamse #9 2010

Featured in the latest Bamse – Världens starkaste björn is yet another Rune A story, “Lången, Tjocken och Lillen”, pencilled by yours truly. My friend Hakim found this funny, since he likes to call me “Tjocken” after my Arabic name Shoqi.

As always, great character design by Rune Andréasson.

A competition, continuing Rune’s story. The shopkeeper Uffe is my design. This is also my very first inked page in Bamse. If you compare with Bernt’s highly finetuned lines you’ll see that, in football terms, Bernt plays in La Liga, while I play in the Swedish league, maybe division 4 or 5.

3D Character Animation in Viborg: Final Project

After 15 intensive and inspiring weeks of 3D animation training in Viborg, I’m cleaning up my dorm room, packing my bags, resetting my little computer corner in the class room to its default state, saying goodbye to some really amazing people that I’m going to miss a lot, getting ready to go home. I’m sort of exhausted, so I’m just going to say: This is my final project. I modelled in my spare time since early on in the course, and animated for 4 weeks. Thank you everyone who helped me, and thank you Viborg! Enjoy!
