In the stores right now: Bamse #12/09

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

The 10 page “Kick-Nicke” is my 4th original Rune A-script. A sequel is in the pipeline. There’s something special about Rune A storytelling. It flows like a river. It’s like he had so many stories in him he could hardly contain himself.  Kick-Nicke is another example of great character design, I think. You can tell there’s personality and history to him. The design matches the story. Read Bamse #12, and you’ll see what I mean!

BBB plays LatinSwing @ Malmöfestivalen

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

Bobbe Big Band plays at Malmöfestivalen, Saturday from 10 pm (22.00) to midnight and beyond. The place is Swingtältet (The Swing Tent), which you’ll find at Södertull, entrance free of charge of course! We have some great guest stars: Ola Åkerman and Ola Nordquist on trombones, Niklas Fredin on trumpet and song, and Ralph Berger Torres on more percussion instruments than you can name. BBBs LatinSwing concerto also features singer CJ Lennartsson, our smooth singing friend from the All That Jazz concerts. We’ll give you a sneak peak of this autumn’s big BBB concert project, in which CJ will interpret pop and rock classics.

This poster – probably the greatest BBB ever had – was made by Alfred Gunnarsson. Check out his blog and portfolio at Salmiak Media. He made it for the first time we played the concert, in April at Babel in Malmö. Two of the organisers of Malmöfestivalen were in the audience and offered us to play in Swingtältet. Welcome to the party on Saturday!

LAC COMICS WORKSHOPS

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

Between 27 Juli – 11 July I held a series of saturday afternoon workshops for the children of Liverpool Arabic Centre. In the first workshop, the children designed their own comic characters.

In workshop II and III, the LAC children created comics with their characters from workshop I. Or they made up new ones. I was baffled by the creativity of the children. Amazing stuff! I got a taste for teaching cartoons and comics. Inshallah, I’ll be able to develop these workshops further in the future.

On 19 July we made an exhibition with some of the children’s work. The exhibition was part of this year’s Arabic Arts Festival, and it took place at LJMU centre for Art and Design. It was also a two part competition, one for best character and one for best comic. The winners got a book on cartooning, and the 2nd prize winners got a drawing set of pencils, eraser, ink pens, felt tips and drawing pad. If you look carefully you’ll see the 1st and 2nd prize winners in the above slide shows.

My summer in Liverpool

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

I’ve spent my summer so far in Liverpool, staying at my dad’s doing freelance work. Now, my dad lives in a big house. It used to be full of life when my three sisters lived here. Those days there were always guests staying as well. You never knew who you’d end up hanging out with when you got here. Nowadays, the three sisters have moved out, and dad and his wife work late. I never realised how big the house was..

So, life in Liverpool has been largely quiet. Lots of time for contemplation. Working, walking the dog, feeding the cat, and the occasional beer, these were the routines. As my stay in the city of football and the Beatles is drawing to a close, I’ve been spending lots of time thinking ahead. Writing long e-mails to people asking stupid questions, that sort of thing. My near future will most likely involve Arabic as well as drawing, that’s all I can say for now. All in all, my summer in Liverpool had its intended effect. I know a little bit better what I want, and I’m prepared to move on. I’d lie if I said I’m not homesick..
