BBB plays LatinSwing @ Malmöfestivalen

Bobbe Big Band plays at Malmöfestivalen, Saturday from 10 pm (22.00) to midnight and beyond. The place is Swingtältet (The Swing Tent), which you’ll find at Södertull, entrance free of charge of course! We have some great guest stars: Ola Åkerman and Ola Nordquist on trombones, Niklas Fredin on trumpet and song, and Ralph Berger Torres on more percussion instruments than you can name. BBBs LatinSwing concerto also features singer CJ Lennartsson, our smooth singing friend from the All That Jazz concerts. We’ll give you a sneak peak of this autumn’s big BBB concert project, in which CJ will interpret pop and rock classics.

This poster – probably the greatest BBB ever had – was made by Alfred Gunnarsson. Check out his blog and portfolio at Salmiak Media. He made it for the first time we played the concert, in April at Babel in Malmö. Two of the organisers of Malmöfestivalen were in the audience and offered us to play in Swingtältet. Welcome to the party on Saturday!

My summer in Liverpool

I’ve spent my summer so far in Liverpool, staying at my dad’s doing freelance work. Now, my dad lives in a big house. It used to be full of life when my three sisters lived here. Those days there were always guests staying as well. You never knew who you’d end up hanging out with when you got here. Nowadays, the three sisters have moved out, and dad and his wife work late. I never realised how big the house was..

So, life in Liverpool has been largely quiet. Lots of time for contemplation. Working, walking the dog, feeding the cat, and the occasional beer, these were the routines. As my stay in the city of football and the Beatles is drawing to a close, I’ve been spending lots of time thinking ahead. Writing long e-mails to people asking stupid questions, that sort of thing. My near future will most likely involve Arabic as well as drawing, that’s all I can say for now. All in all, my summer in Liverpool had its intended effect. I know a little bit better what I want, and I’m prepared to move on. I’d lie if I said I’m not homesick..

Where drawings are made…

Just thought I’d show you where I draw and create nowadays. I moved into a comics studio at the end of December 2007, and I’ve been working here since 7 Jan. The studio houses 10 comic artists altogether.

We’re situated in an old chocolate factory in Malmö called Mazetti-huset (“The Mazetti House”). Nowadays the buildning is devoted to culture, and in it you’ll find everything from film to music to comics and dance workshops, plus a restaurant and a club.

Jimmy Wallin, the Head of Seriestudion (“The Comics Studio”) welcomes you to our place. Jimmy and me compete daily in who can drink the most coffee.

The studio is like any crowded office space, but perhaps there are more cartoons and crazy projects going on here than what’s average. It’s very cosy. You should come and visit us!

This is my own little corner of the studio. I started to feel at home immediately. Thanks to my window space I had somewhere to place my muppet figurines. Happy happy joy joy!

It feels much more like having “a real job” these days. Being able to go TO work, and more importantly LEAVING work, is a welcome change in daily routines.

Welcome to Studio Qassim!

Times are exiting! The world will never be the same again! Studio Qassim is launching its brand new website!

At this blog I’ll keep you updated on what’s happening at the Studio. If you’re lucky I’ll post some sketches, doodles or photos from current or upcoming projects. At the moment, I’m doing some last minute touch-ups on the site, trying to make it look as good as possible.

If you haven’t already, please browse through the studio portfolio. You’ll enjoy it, dude!
